What is Permanent Hymen Repair?
Permanent hymen repair is a surgical procedure performed with a technique called reconstruction, regardless of when you had your first sexual intercourse, how many times you have had sexual intercourse, whether you have had abortion, miscarriage or childbirth. The flap in this procedure is the tissue taken from the vaginal wall. Since the hymen is reconstructed using this tissue, permanent hymen repair is also called hymenoplasy with flap technique. During sexual intercourse, the tissues are torn and bleeding occurs when the male genitalia penetrates through this area reconstructed with the flap technique. The main purpose of this type of procedures is to ensure that bleeding occurs during sexual intercourse.
How is the Hymen Repair Procedure Performed with the Flap Technique?
Permanent hymen repair with flap method takes 30 minutes on average. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, but in some cases, it can also be performed under general anesthesia depending on the patient's preference. The patient can go home the same day after the operation, and return to her routine daily life the next day. During the postoperative recovery period, the patient should follow the physician’s recommendations and directions about the postoperative care described to her. It should be remembered that taking into account the patient's recommendations is essential in addition to the surgical success, for achieving the expected result from the operation.
Can Permanent Hymen Repair Be Noticed?
Permanent hymen repair cannot be noticed by the partner of the patient, but it can be noticed by an obstetrician or forensic medicine specialist during examination. Hymen repair cannot be noticed during the examination or delivery in the future. If there is a vaginal laxity, it can be treated in conjunction with such surgical procedures in the same session. This repair is important both for the harmony of the tissues during healing and for restoring the enlarged vagina after abortion, frequent intercourse or childbirth etc.
What Are The Points To Take Into Consideration After Permanent Hymen Repair?
We recommend our patients to avoid activities such as exercises, weight lifting, cycling, or activities that require them to excessively open their legs or that may create direct pressure on the operation area, in the first postoperative week. In the follow-up examination after 1 week, we inform our patients about the post-recovery period and follow-up examination, depending on the recovery status. Regular use of drugs prescribed for the postoperative period as well as regular dressings and regular follow-up examination are important to achieve a successful result from the permanent hymen repair procedure performed with the flap technique. These are just as important as performing the surgical procedure properly. No matter how good the surgical result is, postoperative infections may adversely affect the success of the operation.
